Community groups' gifts bring playground closer to reality
Children who move into Beyond Housing’s new townhomes at 887 Frederick Street will have a special place to play, explore and make friends, thanks in part to two generous community groups.
100 Men Who Give A Damn Waterloo Region and 100 Woolwich Women Who Care have each provided funding toward a new playground planned for this affordable housing project in Kitchener.
The Canadian-made play structure can accommodate up to 18 children and features a pirate ship theme, complete with a flag, sail, telescope, slide and rock climber. It’s scheduled for installation in early 2027.
A place to make friends
Beyond Housing donors believe affordable housing should be about more than providing a safe, affordable place to live. It should also create opportunities for people to connect, build relationships and feel that they belong.
Some of the families who will call 887 Frederick home have experienced domestic violence. For these children, the playground will offer something simple but important: a place where they can just be kids.
They’ll be able to run outside, use their imaginations, make new friends and enjoy a space designed especially for them, right outside their homes.
Many thanks to these caring supporters for recognizing that home is more than a place to live. It’s a place to play too.
