Tenants are responsible for all utilities, water, and sewer. Accounts with Enbridge, Enova Power, and the Township of Wellesley must be in the tenant’s name. Deposits may be required for new accounts. Yard maintenance is the responsibility of the tenant. Tenants are responsible for their own content insurance.

Affordable housing includes space for local food cupboard.
This opportunity arose in an unusual way. The owners of a multi-unit building in Waterloo had sold their property to a neighbouring condominium developer and were required to remove all buildings as a condition of the purchase. Rather than create rubble for landfills, they were searching for a non-profit organization that could make use of their building once it was removed from the site. It had been determined that the upper three floors could be salvaged intact and transported to new sites. They contacted Beyond Housing to ask whether this was something they could do.
Each of the three salvageable floors was about 1,500 square feet which were converted into four-bedroom units suitable for large families. The first two floors were moved to Ratz St. in Elmira and the third floor was moved to David St. in Wellesley. Beyond Housing was responsible for the costs of a new foundation and the construction of a new second storey as well as the additional commercial space at the front to comply with local zoning.
Construction took a giant step toward completion on May 20, 2013 thanks to the contribution of 20 volunteers from the Old Colony Mennonite Church. This group framed the second floor and roof to complete the main structure of two four-bedroom units. Wellesley Mennonite Church provided meals for the special “barn raising day” in Wellesley.
The project was successfully completed in November 2013. The first family moved in on November 1st while final tweaks were still being completed on the 2nd floor. The second family moved in at the beginning of December 2013, able to enjoy Christmas in their new home.
In early 2015, the commercial space was made available to the newly created Food Cupboard in Wellesley. Beyond Housing is happy to be able to partner with this local grassroots initiative.
